English Department

The Chico High School English curriculum is designed to improve reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking skills for students of all abilities. Throughout the curriculum students are introduced to a variety of literature, including novels, short stories, plays, poems, and non-fiction. They are expected to do an extensive amount of writing, including both creative and analytical essays.

Our goal in every class is to prepare all students for the next step in their academic and/or professional careers. However, the spirit of every English course is reading and writing about great literature for the sake of enriching our lives and becoming more adept at discerning the subtleties of our existence--to become connoisseurs of great ideas and the art of their exposition.
